VERIZON AND AT&T STORES TO SELL IPAD TABLETS
While Samsung, Motorola and others prepare their own launches of tablet devices in early 2011, Verizon and AT&T gained a headstart before the holidays, striking deals with Apple to start selling iPads by the end of this month. The WiFi-enabled iPad will be the first Apple product sold in Verizon’s stores, while AT&T will sell this and 3G wireless versions of the iPad, in deals that represent two of several aggressive distribution moves made recently by Apple that are set to boost iPad unit sales significantly. WSJ reports that the iPad deal with Verizon will provide Apple with an inside view of Verizon’s network capabilities, while Verizon plans to offer the iPad with Verizon’s MiFi device, which creates a portable WiFi hotspot for up to five connected devices.
