INDIA SCANDAL THREATENS 'PURE' PREMIER
A scandal over the government's allotment of telecom spectrum threatens to tarnish the reputation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, writes WSJ. India's Supreme Court has harshly criticized Singh for waiting 16 months to respond to a request for a probe into the matter. Thursday, the court gave the Solicitor General, which represents the government in the Supreme Court, until Saturday to file an affidavit explaining why the government had been slow to respond.
