REPORT SEES RISK IN CHINESE TELECOM GEAR

A congressional advisory panel report, which is expected to be released by the end of the year, will focus on US security concerns pertaining to China's growing role as a global telecom supplier. Issued by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, the report states, “China will effectively become the principal market driver in many sectors, including telecom” and that “national security vulnerabilities attributable to having critical infrastructure components manufactured, implemented, operated or maintained by foreign actors are increasing at an escalated rate”, writes WSJ. Commission member Michael Wessel says that a significant amount of cyber incursions are carried out via telecom infrastructure.
