SONY ERICSSON SEES SMARTPHONE GROWTH IN CHINA
Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg expects rapid growth in the Chinese smartphone market, predicting the higher-end devices to account for 50 percent of the handset market in China by 2015 or earlier, writes WSJ. In order to meet the anticipated boom, the device-maker is deepening its collaboration with China Mobile, offering a new device, the Android-based A8i, which runs on Chinese-developed technology. It will also continue marketing a line of devices that run on the more popular technology offered by China Unicom. Sony Ericsson had 9.3 percent of the smartphone market in China in Q2, with an average sales price of USD203, and Nordberg said it is now “safer to predict” that the handset maker “can be above water level” by the end of 2010.

SAMSUNG HAS NOTHING NEW FOR HOLIDAY SEASON
Unlike many of its competitors; Samsung has no new flagship smartphone to offer for the upcoming holiday season, writes WSJ. Instead, the South Korean device-maker will rely on its Galaxy S line of handsets as well as its upcoming tablet PC.
