LG PREPARES TO LAUNCH ONE TABLET AND TEN SMARTPHONES
WSJ reports that LG, a johnny-come-lately in the smartphone sector, has announced it plans to launch ten new smartphone models as well as a Tablet PC, as it struggles to catch up with its rivals. The LG tablet will be Android-based and it will allow users to create content rather than simply showing it, said Chang Ma, vice president of marketing for mobile devices.

APPLE TO SHUT DOWN QUATTRO AD NETWORK

As of September 30th, Apple will close down its recently-acquired Quattro Wireless advertising network, in favor of its own iAd network. The move was widely anticipated.

GADGET GIANT’S EVOLUTION: MAKE, THEN SELL
Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, plans to transition from acting just as a manufacturer to also being a retailer, reports WSJ. The Taiwanese factory-owner has formed a partnership with the German retailer Metro AG. Louis Woo, the senior executive in charge of the retail venture, said Hon Hai plans to sell products it makes for various leading brands. HP, Apple and Nokia all declined to comment on the matter.
