SECURITY CONCERNS PROMPT WARNINGS FOR MOBILE APPS
Malicious software exploiting the mobile-phone-apps craze is on the rise. “Mobile phones are a huge source of vulnerability,” says Gordon Snow, assistant director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, adding, “We are definitely seeing an increase in criminal activity.” WSJ writes that many unauthorized apps are “more useless than malicious”, such as the ones Google pulled from its Android Market in December. However, those apps could have been updated to capture customers' banking credentials, says John Hering, CEO of mobile security provider Lookout.
