CONSORTIA IN FIGHT FOR LE MONDE
According to a France Telecom spokeswoman, the group on Sunday was prepared to bid as much as EUR60 million (USD74.2 million) for French daily newspaper Le Monde and its website. France Telecom has formed a consortium with Groupe SFA PAR and the Spanish media group Prisa, and its total bid for a 65 percent stake in the paper would be between EUR80 million and EUR100 million, SFA founder Claude Perdriel said last week. A rival consortium comprising Lazard banker Mathieu Pigasse, Pierre Bergé, former business partner of Yves Saint Laurent, and telecom billionaire Xavier Niel, has offered to invest EUR100 million.
