PAY RAISES SIGNAL NEW ERA
All the major papers report that the pay raises at the Foxconn factory, which has been marred by employee suicides, may signal a new era, in which smartphones may either become more expensive or be made by robots instead of Chinese workers. The days of enjoying almost free labor may soon come to an end, in which case consumers would have to pay higher prices for their smartphones, writes DI. After Foxconn announced its pay raises, both Foxconn’s and its parent company Hon Hai’s market value plummeted ten percent, reports SvD.
