Verizon in talks with rural firms
Verizon Wireless is in talks with a number of rural telecom operators to license its wireless spectrum, potentially helping to bring faster wireless broadband service to remote areas of the US. Under the proposed arrangements, Verizon would license spectrum for a small fee to local operators, which would sell the service, and either Verizon or the operator could perform the installation of equipment. Verizon is also striking data roaming agreements with the rural operators to let their customers use the rest of Verizon's network when traveling.
