CHINESE STAY OUT OF MAJOR DEAL
The national Indian operator, BSNL, has not yet completed its purchase of GSM telephony. Ericsson had won almost half of the giant order, but now BSNL will have to start a new bidding process, after the anti-corruption agency, CVC, started an investigation about the negotiations between the company and Ericsson. The new order that Ericsson will have to compete for is much smaller, but on the other hand, the arch rival, China’s Huawei, has been banned from the process.
 
LACK OF PARTS A PROBLEM FOR ERICSSON
Last quarter, the lack of electronic components had a negative impact on Ericsson sales. Communications Director Henry Sténson says that it is difficult to assess the current situation but that most likely the component shortage will continue during the second quarter. According to Rick Pierson, technology analyst at Isuppli, the market for electronic components will continue to be tough throughout the year.
