MOTOROLA MAKES CHINA PUSH
Motorola has introduced a smartphone version of its once-popular Ming handset in China
. The Ming handset was first launched on the Chinese market in 2006, and offers a sought-after Chinese handwriting application. The re-introduction of the newly updated, Android-based, Ming comes as Motorola is trying to regain market share in China, the world’s largest market for mobile devices. Motorola’s market share has dropped from 23 percent in 2006 to just two percent in Q2 2010. “The smartphone segment in China is growing very fast,” said Frank Meng the head of Motorola’s handset division in China, and added that the company is hoping to extend its customer base for the Ming beyond high-end corporate customers.
