RIVALS PROSPER IN QATAR TELECOM CHANGE
In its first year of operation, Qatar Telecom has gained a market share of 18 percent, managing to attract more customers faster than forecast. The operator expects to be profitable sooner than expected, within 12 months, according to CEO Grahame Maher. Although the country’s incumbent, Qtel, more than doubled its profit last year after the government drastically reduced the royalty fee it has to pay, Qatar Telecom appears to be giving it a run for its money.
