PORTUGAL PM DEFENDS USE OF ‘GOLDEN SHARE’
Portugese prime minister José Sócrates staunchly defends his use of a “golden share” to block Telefónica’s EUR7.15 billion offer to buy Portugal Telecom out of Vivo. “The state will use all the instruments at its disposal to defend what it believes to be the best interests of Portugal Telecom and the country,” he told FT in an interview.
 
EU ROAMING CAP COMES INTO FORCE
Under new regulations effective Thursday, travelers using mobile devices within the EU will have to be notified when their bill reaches EUR40 for data usage in any given month and will be cut off at EUR50 unless they agree to further charges. The July 1 implementation also coincides with a further reduction of voice-roaming tariffs.
