OBAMA PLEDGES TO INCREASE INTERNET CAPACITY
A proposal outlined by President Obama on Monday aims to free up 500 megahertz of spectrum held by US government agencies and US corporations, to almost double the availability of airwaves over the next 10 years. The plan would force the government agencies to offer up airwave space and also rely on television companies to give up spectrum voluntarily. FT writes that the spectrum would be auctioned, which could raise tens of billions of dollars in proceeds to compensate the companies and help pay for a new USD12 billion to USD16 billion network for public safety.
